England loses their second under-age European Championship in 34 days. So is this glass half empty or half full?
Besides the game being essentially a home match for the kids from the Ukraine, nothing else can be said to qualify the match but another disappointment for the English. After losing handily to Germany in the Under-21 final on June 29, the England U-19 squad was dominated by a Ukraine side that scored their goals in the fifth minute of each half.
Hopefully the hand-wringing expected from English fandom will recognize that England has not won the annual U-19 European championship since 1993 (reaching the finals twice after that) and has not won the biannual U-21 European finals nor even reached the final since 1984.
So, two finals reached in a summer.
The glass looks half-full to me.
